What a story!

So it's been a while since I have posted anything, and as I will soon tell you it has been for good reason. We got back from our trip to Mexico a little over a week ago, and it was a trip I will never forget. But I get ahead of myself... let us begin from the beginning!

We were scheduled to leave Dec. 14th so Jason and I stayed up late on the 13th to pack and get the house all ready to be gone for a week. We thought about staying awake until we had to drive to the airport, but decided to go to bed around 1am. Jason set his alarm to go off at 3am, so we thought we were good. Little did I know! What Jason forgot to do was set the alarm to go off on Sunday morning... his cell phone has a setting that allows him to select days for his alarm to go off. So we slept in late, and were woken up by a text message from my sister asking us where we were... at 4:30am, when our plane was leaving at 5:20. We scrambled into the car with Piper and rushed to the airport only to arrive too late to make our flight. So we were scheduled to leave the next day, same time. The good thing about that was that we had forgotten quite a few things and so we were able to take care of those things before we left on Monday morning. And by this time as most of you know, it had begun snowing in Portland, which made Jason and me nervous that our flight might be cancelled. Fortunately it wasn't and we got off just fine, and arrived in Phoenix for our layover on time. But that is not where the madness ended. Our connecting flight was then delayed 4 hours because our plane was stuck in Denver, CO... which caused us to be in the Phoenix airport for 6 hours with a toddler... not so much fun. Fortunately we found a little play place for Piper to play. We finally got to Mexico Monday evening, and our vacation began!
Sleeping in daddy's arms on the plane.

Mexico was great. The weather was perfect and Piper had so much fun in the pool playing with all of us. She was absolutely fearless, and would jump into the pool on a whim with no regard for her own safety (toddler logic at it best). We finally decided that we needed to get her some water wings so she wouldn't drown herself. Jason even took her out into the ocean once and she loved it! She could be a little difficult at meal times, until we found out that all she wanted was to sit in her own chair, not a highchair. Unfortunately the last few days she started having diarrhea, and the last day she started running a high fever. So needless to say we were glad to be going home when the trip was finally over on Monday the 22nd. Or so we thought....

Once we got to Phoenix we were told that our flight to Portland was cancelled due to the weather. And further more we were told that we couldn't get on another flight to Portland until Friday, the day after Christmas. It was quite disappointing to be stuck away from home for Christmas, but it was more disappointing to just be away from home with Piper being sick. We thought we might try to fly as close to home as possible and drive the rest of the way, but the closest we could get was Las Vegas, and we didn't want to drive 22 hours with a sick toddler in the car. Luckily my dad has some friends who live in Vegas, so we stayed with them, and my mom was able to call RCI and snag a room for a few of us to stay in as well. As soon as we got to Vegas we went to the ER to get Piper looked at because we thought she was getting quite dehydrated. Unfortunately she was dehydrated and she had to get IV fluids. The poor little thing was crying and saying "all done" the whole time they were inserting the IV. Jason and I were toast, and both crying as well. It was possibly the saddest thing I have ever experienced. Fortunately she started feeling better right away. The next morning Tacie got a flight out on stand-by so that she was able to get home to be with her husband. The rest of us stayed in Vegas until Friday, and it was actually pretty fun. We went to some Christmas parties with my dad's friends, and Piper even had some friends to play with as well. Then finally on Friday we flew home, with no delays.

So, as you can see we have been on quite a rollercoaster ride, and have been pretty much sleeping for the last week! Because of course the three of us came home with chest colds!! But we then finally got to spend time with family and have our "Christmas" with everyone. It was such an unforgettable Christmas, and I can actually say now that it was quite adventurous, and at times enjoyable! :) I hope that everyone else had a wonderful Christmas, and happy new year to you all!
